Yeah!! What y’all said.
Loved this:
“It’s cocktail part/water cooler conversation”
So perfectly put. That’s why I love you both so much!
Please, never leave Twitter/FB… I’d miss ya
Oh, and thanks to this video I found out about Precious And Fragile Things. YAY!
Numerous places I’ve gone I’ve seen readers comment how cool it was to learn this or that about their favorite OR newly discovered author. They think it’s cool they can connect. Wow, they have kids too, or struggle like I do.
So long as the writings good, the more they connect with that author, the more I think they closely monitor that authors releases.
I can attest that there are two authors, that have HUGE followings, that due to their snottish attitudes, I refuse to spend MY hard earned money to buy their books.
If you work in an office, where there are others around, you HOPE you like the person working closest to you. No, you may not want to drag them home, or become TOO friendly, but you do hope to have a relationship of sorts, that if you need to mooch a bag of tea, you feel comfortable enough to at least ask, and vice versa.
From a marketing standpoint.
On a completely different scale, you have name branding. The more someone see’s a name, such as seeing it on twitter, facebook, myspace or other networking site, the more the odds they will remember.
Shopping around B & N or Amazon, they think, I’ve seen that name before?
Oh yeah, it’s that crazy author who has a disco in her basement. Or maybe…that author who loves shoes more than Imelda Marcos.
That increases the chances that they will try out that book, or remember your name enough to see if there is a new release.
It’s all about how you use it. Social networking is only as invasive as you ALLOW it to be. So true about it’s all about what you willingly put out there!
It’s a great place to make connections and promote (without a spamapalooza!) and interact with people who do what you do and who like what you like!
